First aid in small boats and water sports

The first aid course for those who are involved in water sports or aboard smaller vessels: Recreational sailors, kayak and canoe rowers, surfers and all others who often engage in activities on the water, will greatly benefit from this course. The goal is to outfit the participants with the necessary abilities to handle the potentially life threatening situations that can occur in these circumstances. This includes evaluating accidents, sudden illnesses or serious injuries that require first aid. Contents:
- Main points of first aid
- Calling for help: Alarm 1-1-2 or VHF, as well as emergency flares
- Special circumstances for accidents and evacuation at sea
- Checking response and the ABC’s
- Recovery position and improvised recovery position
- Recognition of cardiac arrest and the chain of survival
- CPR and the use of an AED
- Minor injuries
- Acute diseases
- Handling massive/life-threatening bleeds
- Prevention of circulatory shock
- Making use of rescue blankets
- Cold and heat injuries: prevention, evaluation and first aid
- First aid of hypothermia
- First aid of foreign body objects in the airway
- Stroke: Signs and symptoms
- How and when to get medical attention
